Heard movement walking past the back of the reed bed on the way home. Bittern was walking very slowly on the ice about halfway in, LHS from where I was looking (would have been far RHS from the usual viewpoint).

Visible for at least 15 mins (until dark), climbed halfway up reeds, seen preening. Midway between pale tree and right edge of reed bed. Also visible from bench behind reedbed in 3rd 'reed alleyway' along.
