Pair one, female sitting on replacement nest on the ground. Pair two in adjacent territory, both parents feeding young exceptionally high up (20+ metres?) in ivy in a tree. Male 1 feeding both female 1 on and off nest, AND female 2, who carries his food back to her young. He allows her to feed in his territory even on its far side away from hers. But several times he refused to feed her when she begged, instead taking the food to female 1. Female 2 was his mate last year in his present territory, which may explain his lack of territorial aggression towards her. Last year she lost all three lots of young in nests low down or on the ground, which may explain why she has nested so high this year. | ||||

06:15 | Heard singing on walk to local newsagent. Three weeks ago, same walk, same time, but much warmer temperature I counted 31. Clearly illustrates how a drop in temperature affects a species' ability or desirability to sing. |
