Orange to withdraw "email to SMS" support for non-Orange members

1 December 2004 | Marek Walford

For a number of years local birders have been able to recieve bird news in the field by registering with Orange and then having bird news sent to their Orange email address and subsequently forwarded to their mobile phone as a text message. In the last week Orange have made the following announcement: "From February 2005, Orange Email and Organise services will only be available to customers with an Orange mobile phone."

If you are an Orange customer you can continue to receive bird news in the same manner. However, non-Orange customers will either have to find a company offering an "email to SMS" service (I cannot find any that do this for free) or they can subscribe to my own SMS bird news alerts service.
