Submitting bird news in the field

16 November 2005 (revised 25 November 2005) | Marek Walford

This website has become an excellent way of disseminating bird news. However, there are inevitably occassions when you can't get to a PC until much later in the day. In most cases this isn't a problem but for rare birds where time is of the essence, it can be. There are two ways of submitting bird news while in the field.

If you have a WAP capable mobile phone (nearly every phone that has been released in the last few years) you can submit news by going to the following address: www.berksbirds.co.uk/wap/submit.asp. You will have to log-in before you can submit news but once you're logged in you'll be able to bookmark the page for future use.

If you don't have a WAP mobile phone (or can't be bothered using the WAP site) you can submit bird news by texting BERKSBIRDS followed by your news to 60300 (usual text rates apply).

I don't want my mobile name displayed on a public website and this allows you to text me news without me giving out my number. I am charged a small fee for having texts sent to 60300 so please only use that number if you don't know my number, the news is first hand (i.e. not pager news), and the bird is at least scarce. Please include your name in the text. Texts to 60300 must be prefixed with BERKSBIRDS and you can't use 60300 for voice calls.
