ad + juv. Little Terns still present between 18:23 and 18:47. Initially both birds were fishing, with occasional rests on Tern Island. As the light began to fail the birds settled on Tern Island, remaining there until at least 18:47. They were not sighted the next day or subsequently. While the birds rested, photographs were taken. Subsequently it was noticed that what appeared to be a yellow leg ring was present in some of these photographs. No code was visible on the ring but this could have been due to the poor quality of the photos in the low-light conditions. On 11/10/2024 details of the Little Terns' visit, including relevant photos, were sent to LittleTernSightings@rspb.org.uk. In addition https://littleternproject.org.uk/sightings/ was accessed and, via links to www.ring.ac and then www.cr-birding.org, it was determined that yellow leg rings with no code are used at Little Tern sites in Norfolk and rings with an alpha-numeric code are used at multiple UK Little Tern sites and specifically at sites in Cumbria, Chesil Beach, Tiree and the Isle of Man. (Coded yellow rings are also used for Little Terns in Israel). As is not clear from the photographs whether or not a code is present, it seems unlikely that the origin of these birds can be established.
