A bird that was on the scrape in front of the Colebrook hide yesterday looking a bit off colour was still there today, with blood around the neck and apparently unable to move. It was decided to try to help the bird - it didn't try to escape capture and was free to move though it hadn't, and we suspected that a fox had attacked the bird in the night. The bird was taken to local vets and then on to the Hart Wildlife Rescue Centre in Medstead. In the following fortnight, the bird at first appeared to recover and started to feed, but later developed breathing difficulties and the decision was made to put it to sleep.
